Having skating at Adams farm will be too disruptive, creating additional traffic and noise in the area.

This would also create a liability for the town if somebody got hurt.

Yeah,... the skating is a crazy idea! We paid $8 million for that land. No one should use it! Maybe the kids can skate in the parking lot of the proposed power plant in South Walpole. CPV will pick up the tab for that too, I am sure. Just be certain not to let them out of the car until to 200 tanker trucks have passed. Talk about disruptive!!!!!!!!!!!!!Do we live in the same town?

Skating in Adams Farm is a fabulous idea. The land was bought by the town, for the public to use. Residents using their land for enjoyment is not disruptive. We did not buy the land to create privacy and tranquility for a few select residents. If no one can use the land, then we should sell it for homes (as was originally proposed) or some other use. This property belongs [U]all[U] of us. We are not disruptive!

Do it! Put in a rink. Enlarge the parking area to allow enough people to come there to skate. Then in the spring time, it's a short jump to a sports field.

I really don't care about an outdoor rink, but I want a playing field at Adams Farm and this is a step in the right direction!

Having brought my kids there several times when they were younger and when they went on their own, I kind of remember a sign stating that parents were responsible for their children.

Why the concern over liability to the town? Are you worried that poor Jamie fell down and got a cut? If you skate on ice there's that probabilty. Ice is hard and cold. Toughten up and let the kids be kids enjoying something they might like to do. It's also great exercise and fresh air.

I can only surmise that #2 was submitted as a joke, an intentional attempt to get an argument going. It's so outlandishing it can not be taken seriously. This is such a tremendous idea, I can't wait till they get it going. In fact, I plan to help out however possible. Let's remember, Walpole was Hockey Town U.S.A. back in the day (40's, 50's 60's) - State and New England champs several times. And of course that Olympic skater guy back in the 1920's. Skating is in our blood.

We definitely need to utilize Adam Farms better. I personally would like to see apple orchards be put in there and make it a working farm. It would be great and it would be local. We paid $8 million dollars for this property and to me lets make money off of it. It will cost initially then it will pay for itself and it will attract quite a bit of people. I think a skating rink is an OK idea. Friends of Adam Farms should try to make money off of it to be able to keep the maintainence up on the rink. One thing we can do if everyone is worried about liability is have everyone sign a waiver that uses the rink. I had to do this at Iorino rink for my daughter basically stating they have no liability if my daughter gets injured. If they can do this why can't we. Regarding traffic, hello we paid $8 million for this property, which is quite a bit of money. I am dissapointed more people do not visit Adams farm.

That would be wonderful! And a sportsfield for the kids would be great. I did like the posters idea of a working orchard.
We need to ultilize this space.

I believe the Town of Easton (or some organization in the town) has a rink in a flat lot on 123 near that small 'village' with the church and statue. Great idea.

memorial pond was the premier skating pond in walpole. Why has it been abandoned? As I understand it, the pond and the surrounding shoreline are property of the town of Walpole.

It looks like the abutters on East St., between School and Diamond, are extending their properties to the shoreline.

how far back does the town own, and why doesn't the town treat memorial pond like it once was?? Public property?

Ice Skating is a very wholesome actvity for both kids and adults. We had an overide to purchase this property for open space and recreational activity. I think that a skating rink would be a great winter time use for the farm. Soccer and ball fields would also be a good use for this area. This would be much safer for skating than the ponds around town. Keeping the ice clean and refreshed could easily be done by volunteers that use the rink. I am all for utilizing this resource for many activities.

The town already has Turner Pond for ice skating, is their a real need for one at Adams Farm? What about the pond at the Aggie ... isn't that available for ice skating?

I think Adams Farm could be better utilized as field space for parks and recreation: a pristine baseball/softball field, a pop warner/youth lacross field. An ice rink seems like a rather silly idea.

Since the town owns the land, why can't we develop some possibilities for revenue generation? Could we create something that would attract people from surrounding communities?

One new beautiful field could be a real jewel for the town. At the same time, I believe that the integrity and beauty of Adams farm should be maintained. I think there is plenty of room for compromise between people who want to leave it alone and people who want to use all the space up. I'm sure some will disagree.

Adams Farm-Leave it alone. You want to skate, go to Turners pond or Memorial Pond. Maintaining good ice on an outdoor rink is very difficult with variable New England weather. Be prepared to buy lights and a Zamboni next.

I,m not against ice skating but why did we spend over a million dollars for an override on Turners Pond when it sits there not in use every winter. It is the best place ever for ice skating. It already has a club house there {heat, bathrooms, lights, fireplace,an ample parking for cars}. What more could you ask for!Plus didn't we just put some money into it fixing it up new roof {etc} Lets think about utilizing this place first before we get into a rhubarb over ice skating at Adams Farm.

Long and short of it, 'It really needs work". It's like a long-neglected camp from the 1950's.. It is not all 'set to go', even though it has electricity.

I think it's a good idea. We're not talking an Iorio arena here. Just a "homemade" rink. It's a lot safer than trusting any of the ponds that someone is going to drown in.

In the old days, Memorial Pond and other similar ponds were ice skating meccas. No one drowned...they just fell in.

Are people too stupid today that they can't skate on a frozen body of water unless it is only 5 inches deep?

Why change Adams Farm? It is rare for a town to have a gem like this, in it's natural state. Visitors come to hike, bike and relax. It is beautiful all year around and the new barn pavilion fits perfectly into the rustic landscape. I will admit that the land is under utilized, but that adds to the peacefulness that we could all use more of. Events like Field Day or a mock fox hunt are too far and few between. Imagine sleighrides in winter, a kite festival in blustery November. When was the last time you went on a picnic? My kids and I love sports and skating, but you can ice skate at DiOrio Arena. Please preserve Adams Farm.

I think this is a great idea and why not? It will be a very small piece put behind the barn. The town can also sell hot chocolate as an added bonus on weekends The farm is sooooo under utilized it is not funny. Bird park receives at least 200-1000 visitors a day and I still find it very peaceful. Adams farm maybe 10???? I would also like to see community farm added to Adams farm and why not? It was a farm and now the community owns it. We can also looking into selling the extra produce at the Adams farm barn. Anything is a possibilty just need to think outside of the box. Also people would meet other people and share secrets on a great garden. Trust me, I need all the help I can get.

They should have a lottery or leasr tracts of field to share croppers. Think of the possibilities to augment this land usage.

I am a decendant of share croppers and would love to take a tract.

How can we proceed to push for this? I love the community garden idea and would be interested in it.
