Default Good intention, but wrong implementation

I think meters will actually hurt downtown businesses. I can understand wanting to keep all-day commuter parking OUT of the center, but how about posting a 2 hr. parking limit. Tickets could then be written for violaters, just as with the meters. The up side of this is that those frequenting downtown businesses would not have the negative impact of having to "feed the meter". Posted 2 hour parking goes after the offenders without hurting customers of the downtown.

Default Where do you think I will go?

So I can either pay to park to go to Daltons or I can drive 1/2 a mile and park for free and shop at Walpole Wine and Spirits.....

Meters are completely unnecessary. The volume of commuters parking in municipal lots is extremely minimal. This is a non issue, and it looks like the town is simply loking for another way to generate revenue in a down economy, using this as an excuse to generate more fees.

How about this: Have a fireman stroll through the parking lot at 10 am and at 2 pm..any car that is still there after four hours gets a parking ticket..problem solved..or just watch the convoy of people walking from the train to the parking lot at the end of the day.

Default Meters = New police station?

Lets see, if the town installs parking meters then just maybe there will be enough revenue to fully fund the new police station without another override. Now that Cliff's number 1 priority has changed again, lets all jump for joy to spend millions when the town doesn't have it.

And any excess could go toward the library.

When did traffic enforcement become the job of the fire department?

    Unhappy Are You Crazy?

I would have to worry about a parking meter when I run into Betros for a prescription? Sorry. I hate to be selfish or sound lazy, but that is not going to happen.

Parking meters will drive customers away from downtown...quickly...very quickly.

No, it's not a typo. No one is asking the firemen to add traffic enforcement as part of their job. I believe the suggestion was to have them assist in PARKING enforcement, due to the proximity of the firehouse to the parking lot in question. Many towns and villages employ "peace officers" with the ability to ticket parking violations..is this concept foreign to the Commonwealth?
