Here is the announcement by Eric Kraus for selectman:
"Eric Kraus has announced his candidacy for Selectman in the Town of Walpole. Kraus, a senior executive at a locally based $9 billion healthcare products company, vows to improve the Town through a proactive approach to promoting business development, preserving the schools and maintaining municipal services.
"A 1983 graduate of Boston University, Kraus has lived in Walpole for nearly 20 years. He has coached a variety of Town athletic teams and has contributed significant time and support to numerous Walpole organizations, including the Walpole Computer Foundation. He currently serves as President of Walpole Little League.
"Kraus has spent the majority of his 25-year professional career in business, including 13 years as an executive of The Gillette Company. He currently serves as a senior vice president of Covidien, a global healthcare products firm based in Mansfield. During his career, Kraus has successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets, supervised hundreds of vendors and offered dynamic leadership to employees at all levels. He is well-known for his strong work ethic, inclusive management style and unwavering commitment to results.
"As an active participant in the Walpole community, Kraus is extremely knowledgeable about the
significant issues facing the Town. He is pro-business and looks to connect business development to a commercial tax base that will support schools and municipal services. He opposes harmful business, preferring to bring in new businesses that will broaden the tax base and contribute to an enhanced quality of life for all Walpole residents. Eric is opposed to the current proposal to locate a power plant on a site in Walpole.
"Kraus's wife, Christine, a lifelong Walpole resident and active member of the Parent Advisory Council, has served as a Town Meeting Member for the past nine years. Quality education is a priority for Eric, whose father-in-law is a former Superintendent of Schools in Walpole. Eric and Christine have two sons who attend Walpole Public Schools.
" 'This is a crucial time for our Town, one that requires vigorous leadership, forward-thinking
ideas and an energetic, can-do attitude," Mr. Kraus said. "I pledge to devote myself to developing solutions that will protect and promote all that we love about Walpole, while enhancing our Town's future opportunities. If elected, I will bring a clear vision and fresh perspective to the Board of Selectmen," he said, adding, that, "I am tremendously excited about the chance to represent my fellow citizens.' "
